About the Event

BUILDING THE HILLS: FROM APPROVAL TO CONSTRUCTION

The Hills Shire Council says around 17,000 homes have already been approved but remain unbuilt. At the same time, the region is being asked to accommodate more housing and greater density.

Council’s position is clear: unlock the homes already approved and deliver the roads, schools, parks and services needed to support growth.

But moving from approval to construction is not one simple problem. Projects must remain commercially viable as costs rise. New methods such as modular and off-site construction need to deliver genuine efficiencies. AI must be backed by strong leadership, reliable data and operating discipline. And the warning signs of financial trouble need to be recognised before another builder reaches the point of collapse.

Shane Strong will moderate a thought-provoking panel featuring:

  • Filomena Beshara of Freecity, exploring whether homes can be manufactured off-site, refined and delivered with less waste and disruption.
  • Divya Mehta, CEO of Decode Group, bringing the commercial reality of keeping major projects viable when costs rise and delivery risk lands with the builder.
  • Adam Strong of Project Innovator, challenging whether modular construction and AI can improve productivity without better leadership, data and operating discipline.
  • Antony Resnick of DVT Mcleods, revealing why builders collapse, which warning signs are missed and what the industry can learn before the next failure.

Join us as we address the central question: how do we move more projects from planning approval to completed homes and communities in The Hills Shire?
